ABSTRACT
Reliable makeup water treatment is essential for maintaining the integrity and performance of industrial steam generators, even though these units typically operate under less stringent conditions than high-pressure power plant boilers. This article emphasizes that even minor deviations in water quality can lead to scale formation, heat transfer inefficiencies, tube overheating, and ultimately equipment failure.
Drawing on practical experience and industry observations, the discussion underscores a recurring issue: insufficient attention to makeup water treatment compared to process operations. While industrial boilers may tolerate moderately higher impurity levels, adherence to established guidelines remains critical. The paper further examines the consequences of operational shortcuts and stresses the need for consistent monitoring and proper system design to ensure long-term reliability and avoid costly outages.
