The articles presented in this issue highlight several important aspects of modern power plant chemistry. We begin with an evaluation of primary circuit passivation during the hot functional testing phase at Mochovce Unit 4, providing valuable insights into chemistry considerations during plant commissioning. A second contribution examines FAC mitigation strategies under cycling conditions and demonstrates how operational measures can contribute to risk reduction without significant financial investment. The issue is complemented by an analysis of the pH-deaeration paradox and its implications for CO₂ removal in high-purity steam-water cycles. Finally, readers will find the latest update from IAPWS summarizing the outcomes of the 2026 Executive Committee and Working Group meetings in Bristol, UK, earlier this summer.
With the publication of this fourth issue of 2026, we enter a particularly active period for the international power and plant chemistry community. Following the summer break, numerous conferences, seminars, and technical meetings will provide valuable opportunities for professional exchange and discussion of the challenges facing our industry. Our team will be present at the upcoming VGBE Conference Chemistry (October 20–22, in Hamburg, Germany) and the TÜV SÜD conference and exhibition "Kesselbetriebstechnik" (November 26–27, in Erding, Germany).
Another highlight later in the year will be the PPCHEM Seminar & Forum South Africa 2026, which will take place November 17–19, 2026, in Pretoria, South Africa. This three-day event, organized by PPCHEM AG, will address the particular challenges of power plant chemistry in cycling plants, a topic of increasing relevance in the context of the ongoing energy transition and changing operational regimes.
While we look forward to meeting many of our readers during the remaining conferences and events of 2026, preparations for 2027 are already underway. We are pleased to announce that the next PPCHEM training event will be held in Hinwil, Switzerland, on May 25–26, 2027. This will be followed by the TÜV SÜD conference and exhibition "Wasserchemie in Industriekraftwerken" in Erding, Germany, in June, where the PPCHEM team will be present.
These events will once again provide valuable opportunities for learning, discussion, and international networking, all of which are essential for advancing our profession and addressing the evolving challenges of power and plant chemistry. Information on current conferences, seminars, and other PPCHEM activities is continuously updated on the PPCHEM AG website (www.ppchem.com).

A Brief History of the PPCHEM® Journal
First published in July 1999 as the PowerPlant Chemistry Journal, PPCHEM has grown over 25 years and more than 1 000 articles into a leading international resource for the power generation community.
After starting in Germany, production moved to Switzerland in 2009, but the journal's mission has remained unchanged. In 2026, PPCHEM transitioned to an exclusively digital format to better serve its global readership.
We are proud of the journal's long-standing reputation and the continued contributions of our loyal authors, readers, and advisory board members who have made this success possible.
