The British and Irish Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (BIAWPS) hosted their 23rd Annual Power Plant Chemistry Symposium on 22nd–23rd May at Warwick University, Coventry, UK.
The Symposium was attended by around 90 members of the UK and Ireland water/steam cycle chemistry community, with a good mix of Operators, Vendors, and Suppliers to the water treatment industry.
The programme featured presentations on a wide range of water/steam cycle chemistry topics, including ion exchange resin performance monitoring, categorisation of atmospheric corrosion at Hinkley Point C (the UK's newest nuclear power station), emergency preservation and return to service of Grain CCGT Power Station, and electro-deionisation technologies, amongst others. All presentations were well-received by the audience, stimulating some very interesting conversations in the bar after dinner. The full programme can be found at www.biapws.org.
An exhibition was also held, with attendees having the opportunity to view displays from; Ecolutia Services, Hach, Lanxess, Lowe Engineering, Mettler Toledo, NSI Mobile Water Solutions, Ovivo, Purolite, Swan Analytical Instruments, and Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions.
Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions also brought a mobile RO unit along for attendees to look around and gain a valuable insight into a fundamental technology for water/steam cycle operators.
The BIAPWS committee are extremely grateful to all those who gave their time in preparing and delivering presentations, exhibiting, and making the Symposium one of the most enjoyable and successful in recent years.
